City of Lawrenceville hosts upcoming Harvest Festival and Christmas events

Bring the children and grandchildren to celebrate the changing seasons with Harvest Festival in Downtown Lawrenceville on Saturday, November 12. Sponsored by the City of Lawrenceville, festivities take place at the Lawrenceville Lawn where a full day of fall-themed activities and events is planned. Harvest Festival will feature live entertainment, fun and games for children, artists, hayrides around the square, a petting zoo with more than 20 animals, a pumpkin painting station and food from several vendors. Gwinnett County will host the annual Lighting of the Tree on Thursday, November 24. The tradition continues as the tree is lit on the lawn of the Gwinnett County Historic Courthouse on Thanksgiving evening. Santa will light the tree and receive visitors in his “living room” inside the courthouse. Visitors are invited to tour the decorated courthouse where there will be activities for kids, s’mores, live entertainment and other events from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. The Gwinnett Historic Courthouse is located at 185 Crogan Street in Downtown Lawrenceville.

On Saturday, December 10, the City of Lawrenceville will host Merry Little Christmas. Everyone is invited to enjoy the celebration planned throughout the downtown area by singing along to Christmas music, posing for photos in front of the holiday lights and sharing their wish list with Santa. The Lawrenceville Lawn will feature a festive market where folks can watch an ice sculptor at work. There will be Christmas shopping around the square with stores offering special discounts and extended hours. Families can visit Santa and his elves and enjoy eating a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants in the DTL. Harvest Festival, the Lighting of the Tree and Merry Little Christmas are all free.

“Of course, do not forget one of Lawrenceville’s favorite traditions—Christmas Canteen at the Lawrenceville Arts Center, the new home of the Aurora Theatre,” Melissa Hardegree, City of Lawrenceville Director of Community Relations and Chief Communications Officer said. The show runs from November 25 through December 23. Tickets can be purchased at

Other events coming up in December include Brunch with Santa on Saturday, December 17, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. The cost is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Open to all ages, there will be brunch and photo opportunities.

On Sunday, December 18, Holiday Open House will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. The event is free for Gwinnett County residents and $10 for nonresidents. The 1885 Gwinnett Historic Courthouse features a four-story clock tower that overlooks the square in downtown Lawrenceville. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the brick building served as the center of county business for more than a century. The two-acre manicured grounds have a gazebo and picnic tables. The courthouse lawn has been popular for socializing since the early 1900s. Currently undergoing external renovations, the historic courthouse has a turret balcony, Palladian windows, a ballroom with vintage chandeliers and 24-foot ceilings. It houses the Gwinnett Historical Society and Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum.

In addition to the many events listed above, activities are planned almost daily in Downtown Lawrenceville for people of all ages. From workout classes, trivia games, music classes, karaoke and other special interests, groups gather at locations throughout the city to enjoy their favorite pasttimes.
